Waiting for the Tide to Turn

The calmness and cool dark silence of the scene is like waiting for the tide to turn and the light to open up the day. The birds are waiting for the tide to uncover the riches of fresh lug worm on the sand, the boat laying at anchor is waiting for a wind and the tide to start going out.  All is calm and quite still, no wind present, just silent in the predawn. 

There's no noise, no human interaction, just nature and the regular flash of the lighthouse, not lighting up the sky, just flashing a light, to help mariners be safe. 

It's so calm the waves on the tide are imperceptible, the shoreline isn't a rigid line its melded into each other, tide and shore wrapped around each other, no sound, no noise, poised, waiting, waiting for?  

Are the clouds the calm before or after the storm? Is it the last grip of a dark night fighting to remain before the light and a new day takes over and colours the scene with pale oranges, purples and reds, before the bright sky washes the scene away.
